Questions
Ghost Motorfest — frequently asked questions
Tickets, kids, parking, the venue, entering a car or a bike and what happens on the day — everything people ask about Ghost Motorfest, in one place.
Where exactly is the festival?
The Wicket at Newlands Cricket Grounds, Cape Town, with the adjoining Snakepit Museum as the second building. You do not choose a building when you buy — the whole site is one festival.
What does a VIP ticket include?
A meal and a drink, priority queues at the gate, on-premises underground parking at no extra charge, and a private seating area beside the music. Everything a general admission ticket gets is included on top.
Is it indoors?
Entirely. The main hall is 816 m² of clear span with no internal columns, and the museum floor is next door under the same roof line. The festival runs in any weather.
Where do I park, and how much is it?
Public parking is R30 per car for the day, on the Groote Schuur High School sports field next to the ground — a short walk from the gate. VIP tickets include on-premises underground parking, so there is no charge and no queue at the gate.
Can I bring children?
Yes. Kids tickets cover children aged 12 and under — R49 early bird, R59 standard, and R200 for a VIP kids ticket; at the gate a kids ticket is a flat R60. Children under 6 are free. Everyone else entering needs a ticket of their own.
How many tickets are there?
2 450 in total, split across the early bird, general admission and VIP releases. Each release is capped, so once one is gone it is gone.
Can I buy tickets at the gate on the day?
Yes — while there is room, and at a higher price. A limited number are sold at the single gate on the day at a flat R120 for adults and R60 for kids. The festival is capped at 2 450 people, so the gate can sell out before the evening; buying online ahead of the day is cheaper and the only way to be sure of entry.
How do I enter a car?
Use the exhibitor application on the exhibit page — it is in the menu at the top of every page. Cars are R350, bikes R250, and protected cars R550. Slots are limited — 50 cars, 20 bikes and 12 protected positions — and selection is by the panel, not first-come. Traders and media apply through the same form — a trader stand is quoted on application, and media accreditation is R80 a person.
Do I get tickets with my entry?
A car entry, a protected car included, comes with 2 tickets. A bike entry comes with 1 ticket, and one more — for a second person — is available for R50. It is the only extra ticket we sell, and only with a bike.
Will my car fit through the vehicle entrance?
Cars come in through a roller shutter: 3 000 mm wide × 2 730 mm high at Hall 2, and 2 440 × 2 730 mm at Hall 1. Width includes your mirrors — measure before you commit, and tell us if you need the wider door.
Can I run a generator at my stand?
No. Generators are not permitted anywhere on site, by anyone — exhibitors and traders included. Every trader stand has power included in the rate and takes it from the venue.
Where do I park as an exhibitor?
Every booked exhibitor slot includes 1 place in the venue's underground parking, free of charge, for the vehicle that brought the car, the bike or the stand in — the tow car or the van. Up to 2 further places in the same garage are available at R40 each.
What happens once my entry is accepted?
You get an email with a link to confirm your details and pay, and the slot is held for 24 hours. Once it is paid you are added to a WhatsApp group for your category, given an arrival timeslot, and allocated the stand or bay you will be in — all before the day, so you know where you are going. On the day you arrive in your timeslot at the gate; a marshal walks you to your allocated spot and you unload there. We then move the trailer or tow vehicle to the exhibitor parking so the display bay stays clear.
Can I take photographs?
Handheld photography is welcome, and there is a designated detail close-up area. Tripods, drones and rigging beyond head height are not allowed on the festival floor.
Are the venues accessible?
Both buildings have level or ramped access and accessible WCs. Tell us your requirements in the mailing-list form and we will send the specific route and door before the day.
Still stuck? Mail the festival office at info@ghostfest.co.za or phone the toll-free line — both are in the footer of every page, and a person answers.
